It seems that Cynthia Jones has three passions - God, singing and motor bikes. On 'Journey Of Soul' she manages to combine all three. So you get the leather clad album cover pic reminding us she's certainly not the usual gospel singer. If you're a fan of the neo soul sound then Cynthia offers a few tracks for you to enjoy. So highlights include the personal prayer "Revival" and the gentle vibe of "Unconditional" and "Lord I Need You Now" but it's ironic that the best song here is the more upbeat dance gospel of "Universal Praise". This infectious track highlights the uplifting gospel message that is found throughout the album but I have to confess that the downbeat vibe of much of this album tends to make the result feel a little too samey soundwise, despite Jones' undoubted vocal talents. With seven of these tunes clocking in around two minutes or much less in length, I found the interludes a little irritating and contrived. In the opening words of the album, she says "I'm gonna do my thing" and that's fine. I just wish that Miss Jones' thing was a little more compelling.
