DJ Gosporella is a Lagos-based gospel deejay with reportedly over three decades experience so it's slightly surprising that this is his debut EP. Nonetheless, the Nigerian emcee kicks things off in assured fashion with "Born Champion" - a song of praise to God communicated via a boxing analogy - with the help of guest rapper J Lyricist, singer Jodie, some dated synth sounds and the occasional vuvuzela. Immediately changing tack, the bouncy "Jehova Bless Me" draws on the sort of joyful sounds and rhythms associated with East and South African music with guest appearances by Nigerian gospel star Joe Praize and controversy-bound Kenyan hip-hop artist Ringtone. Elsewhere, "Hakuna Matata" sees Gosporella and crew take the "no worries" Swahili phrase and turn it into something much less memorable than its Lion King namesake before the meandering "Gbemisoke" continues to press home the misfiring nature of this release. The title track - a half-baked gospel adaptation of Nigerian mainstream rapper 2Baba's "Gaga Shuffle" - sums up this EP's lack of musical originality and the general foggy delivery of its message.
