This solo album from Dan Adler still contains everything you would expect from the leader of the Heart Of The City Worship Band who, apparently, are based in Minnesota. Layered guitars, strong lead vocals, a variety of musical styles, and lyrics which come from a heart of worship for God. 'Songs For The Battle' was especially recorded for the Every Man's Battle For Purity Ministry, and focuses on the "very real spiritual battle we are in". The album is a mixture of new songs recorded specifically for the album, and older songs which fit the album's theme, including some previously recorded by the Heart Of The City Worship Band. Opening with "Change Me" and "Healer Come Heal Us" the album starts off by calling on the Lord for help, echoing the first step we all must take, to admit we need a saviour. "We Don't Have To" and "Press On" serve as a reminder for each of us to continue fighting and not give in to temptation. "Think About You", a duet with Dan and his wife Sandy, makes a nice centre piece to the album. The song looks at some of the great men of the Bible and draws inspiration from what they achieved. Dan ends the album focusing back on the cross with "Kneeling At The Cross" and "To You". A strong album.
