Hemel Hempstead-based Shiells knows how to call in some favours from talented people for his CD debut. Not only is the photography on this debut release by an award-winning snapper, the music is produced by The Rocketman Collective, featuring Tre Sheppard of onehundredhours. So is Shiells talented, too? Oh yes. He's in the tradition of British acoustic pop-rock. My notes say "Nick Drake with drums" and "early Matt Redman." If the lyrics are occasionally clichéd (touches of the "Jesus is my boyfriend" approach to intimacy) or pedestrian, Dan has a great way with a melody. With some mentoring, he has the potential to impact the "ministry" and worship segments of Christian music. I imagine he's very engaging live. In summary, this is a promising start from a worship man clearly making headway.
