The rather gothic looking CD cover of a Norman Gary painting gives an impression of an album that is devoutly religious and overtly Christian. This would be a correct assessment as this capable California-based worship leader aspires to convey to us the majesty and splendour of God. Backed by musical arrangements of a decidedly folk, blues nature the overall tone is gentle and soothing. This quality lends itself well to Copen's earnest voice which is best captured in a track called "My Lord Reigns". Occasional moments of rockabilly such as "Put Your Faith In God" liven up an album of sincere and uncompromised devotion. The somewhat modest production creates an unassuming quality that denies any pomp or arrogance. Indeed, every song strictly bases itself around a biblical verse so much so that one track ("Whatever") specifically uses the words of Psalm 119. This suggests tremendous humility from a mature, spiritual person giving his talents for his service. The result is good natured and wholesome and has a simplicity that is somehow pure and refreshing. As intended, such is the wholehearted denial of self throughout this album that the singer succeeds in leaving us centred on our Lord rather than him-self.
