From the west coast of America, Phillip Danyew introduces his compelling, soaring, inspiring rock music to the world. There's a dense wall of sound on these songs with U2-style guitars meeting some fantastic keyboard playing all courtesy of one man - Danyew! The mutli-instrumentalist and singer seems content to use the studio as a laboratory to distil his music into something that is lyrically, musically and emotionally powerful. From the no holds barred assault of "Streetlight" to the more gentle and intimate "Close Your Eyes", these songs are worshipful without being something that you could sing on a Sunday in church with your mum. Instead these sophisticated songs combine the best musically and spiritually to intrigue and impress. In some ways it's a modern curse that record labels seem reluctant to put out debut albums from artists until they have tested the water with an EP. Certainly Danyew had a whole album's worth of material and more already recorded and on the strength of these six tracks, it would have been great to hear more. Still, it gives you the chance to spill a few less coins buying the CD and maybe you'll be tempted to try this and like me, get hooked!
