"Without You", "Marks In The Sand", "Stars". Nothing like a bit of plaintive wailing to stir the soul. I'm not sure what's going on here, but it sounds good enough and the Australian singer/songwriter certainly has a work ethic which is somehow (in the lyrics at any rate) tied in with the stereotypical view of his home country - sand, big skies, empty space; the non-urban side of Sydney. The songs are tight, well-paced guitar-led pieces of pop which sit easy on the ear and do nothing to offend. But (there's always a "but") maybe that's the down side. It is just a wee bit self-indulgent in the love-lost-what-will-become-of-me-now stakes - all wishful thinking and a romantically slanted preoccupation with the stars (the sky version). Then there is the eternal balancing act - is it God or lover he's singing about? Vagueness gives us the option. Perhaps no one has pointed out that with a three song EP you run the risk of limiting the range - or possibly demonstrating that you haven't got that much to say in any case. I have a feeling it's the latter.
