The audio CD, 'The Eye Of The Eagle', from this trio of David's (Celtic writer David Adam, along with co-founders of Iona, Messrs Fitzgerald and Bainbridge, woodwind virtuoso and keyboard/strings expert, respectively), received top-mark reviews from music mags such as CR when it first appeared in 1998. It's not 'easy' listening, however; the unhurried, ethereal - often haunting - Celtic tones, overlaid with Adam's ponderous narrative, requires both considerable time and attention to be truly appreciated. This DVD presentation, a major revamp of a 1999 video aired on Anglia TV, helps make the music and message more accessible, also providing a whole range of additional information on the recording of the album, the themes of various pieces and the history and ethos of the Celts. It's truly compelling and beautiful viewing, combining 50 minutes' live filming from the splendour of Norwich Cathedral (including some fine solo vocals and boys' choir input), interspersed with extended interview segments with the three main players. Perhaps best used as a companion to the audio CD rather than a substitute for it, this is, nonetheless, an educational, emotionally stimulating and spiritually enriching production of a timeless work.
