First of all it should be pointed out that this is not to be confused with the 'Amazing Grace: Music Inspired By The Motion Picture'. Nor does it contain a version of the song "Amazing Grace", even the one with bagpipes used at the end of the film. The film, the powerful account of William Wilberforce's lifetime work to get the British government to make slavery illegal, did well in the US though very little mention was made of the original soundtrack. UK-born film score composer David Arnold is best known for his score for the Bond film Casino Royale and the blockbuster Independence Day. This original score has little to distinguish itself being music that is typical of classical film arrangements of a fairly anonymous nature. There are 24 short themes here which obviously blended in well with the generally moody slow-moving pace of the film. As background music it's fine but don't expect it to really summon up the drama or subject matter of the film on its own.
