David is, in Cross Rhythms' book, one of America's very best singer/songwriters and so our expectations were high about this Christmas EP even when we espied that two of the tracks were those over-familiar evergreens "O Holy Night" and "O Come All Ye Faithful". And sure enough, he brings pop electro groove to the former and an Americana-meets-electro pop sound (with a guesting lady singer) on the latter to give them both a fresh coat of stylistic paint. David's re-imaging of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" takes such musical liberties that I doubt whether the great man would recognise his composition. There's still room on the five-song item for a couple of Dunn originals. "Snowflake" has plenty of poptastic production and Mr Dunn's delicious vocals with his masterly use of falsetto adds much to the gently haunting title track. An outstanding Christmas offering.
