Enjoyable from the very beginning, this album has an authority and precision that many artists aim for, but fall short of. Canadian David Johnston has been through quite a journey of faith to bring us this intimate and beautiful music. God told him to lay down music just after he finished building a studio at his home. Obediently David did so in humility. Months later he felt the Holy Spirit prompt him to begin writing an album and this is the result! The album captures a wonderful essence of worship and devotion with its understated production and instrumentation. David is clearly a very gifted young man with a great voice and impressive guitar skills. It's not clear whether there are other musicians apart from his sister lending some sublime vocals. I am left assuming that he played everything. A lovely mix of looped drums, very accurate sounding sampled instruments and spacey, breathy vocals. My main objection would be aimed at the massive amounts of delay and reverb David applies to his mix, which makes the music too distant at times. Another slight downer is the way the songs do all have a little too much in common on the whole. But lyrically there is a wealth of biblical passages and prayerful content sung with reverence. If you are looking for something that will touch your heart and nourish your soul. Search this one out.
