Christianity Today dubbed US singer/songwriter David Paul Strom one of the Top 10 Undiscovered Christian Artists of 2003, and, judging from the sound of this new eight-track release, it's not hard to see why. With compellingly earthy vocals that have drawn repeated comparisons to The Wallflowers, and, to my ears, REM, this guy at once demands that you sit up and take note. His non-cliched lyrics and passion of expression make a constant impression, as in "None Like You" (“Bigger than my problems/Quicker than my remedies/Stronger than my habits/Greater than the sum of everything's abilities/You're lighter than my apathy/Heavier than my regrets/Louder than my temptations/You're brighter and brighter the darker it gets”). These and other praise psalms are wonderfully heart-lifting, while his yearning prayer-cries are equally moving - my favourite being "Show Me". Strong songs with infectious choruses and delivered in a punchy pop/rock style, 'All The Way' is gonna appeal to a wide variety of music lovers. Great stuff, and I can't wait to hear the next one!
