While Deidra Hughes comes from a churched background with a long gospel tradition this album takes up a rock approach. The opening chugging guitars herald an up tempo rendition of "Everlasting God" and while it is hardly Yfriday it is certainly a long way from the black church tradition! Moving into "Freedom" there is a more traditional gospel vocal line but with a rocking Irish lilt that would not be out of place in Riverdance followed by some more ballad type songs before hitting the more traditional gospel of "Only The World". Then it's back to a pop rock feel with a cover of Twila Paris' "God Is In Control" before closing with a contemporary rendition of "In Christ Alone". In all these styles Deidra's gutsy voice never sounds out of place while the arrangements and production are of high quality as would be expected of a Nashville album. Deidra's heart for God comes through strongly in the lyrics of these well chosen songs. There may only be eight songs but the variety of styles and quality mean that it will get played on repeat.

Saw Deidra and bought CD....can't get enough of her music. I love the variety of songs that she chose for her first CD. Anxiously awaiting to hear more from her ministry.
