With his tongue firmly in his songwriter's cheek, clinical psychologist Fred Heide hangs up his white coat and treats us to 10 story songs about saints and criminals, changes and decay - all performed in the '70s west coast melodic rock style of the Allman Brothers Band. With titles like "When Dogs Could Talk" and lines about dragons running bistros in Los Angeles, one senses that we're not supposed to take this album too seriously. Earnest evangelism this is most definitely not. Indeed this is such a surreal collection of songs that I wouldn't be too surprised if Heide himself wasn't all that sure of their meaning. Still, he certainly seemed to have had a lot of fun making the album with a competent band of friends. Musically though their retro style owes such a lot to yesterday's superstars that this will only appeal to soft rock fans close to retirement.
