The genius of Doug Horley is that he is able to write and perform songs in such a wide variety of styles. For instance, he is able to pen songs suitable for adult congregational worship like "We Want To See Jesus Lifted High" (a song Doug penned when he was still a member of Noel Richards' backing band and a classic in anybody's book), but also zany madcap ditties which will keep any six or seven year old happy in between fits of the giggles. This value for money box set brings together four of Doug's albums, 1996's 'We Want To See Jesus Lifted High', 1998's 'King Of Heaven', 2000's 'Whoopah Wahey' and 2002's 'Lovely Jubbly'. The production, often by studio maestro Mark Edwards, is clever, bringing in a wide variety of musical influences from teen pop to dance grooves, the lyrics deliver spiritual truth on many songs without being in the least heavy handed and Doug's voice, if not the best in the world, is definitely better than that other veteran of British children's work Ishmael. If you've got kids and like the idea of them dancing around the room to "Run The Race" or "Whoopah Wahey", or even worshipping God to the lovely, underrated "Out Of My Depth In Your Love" then this package will make an ideal Christmas present.
