The familiar voice of The City Harmonic's vocalist Elias Dummer makes a return on 'The Work Vol 1'. Elias was one of the founding members of The City Harmonic prior to the members' parting ways in 2017, and now this excellent 11-song set demonstrates that Dummer is a top-rate singer/songwriter. Songs like "What Are We Waiting For" and "The Work (It Ain't Easy)", though vastly different stylistically, solidify the start of the album with some great lyrical ideas. "Free" puts a pause on the more typical CCM sound for a fascinating track with background vocals sounding like a forgotten The City Harmonic song. 'The Work Vol 1' is rounded out by the phenomenal track "Invisible", a slow-burning rock song that features Elias' weighty vocals over a punchy guitar line and some smouldering strings. As with most albums, not every song is of the same quality, but this is still a great start to Dummer's post-The City Harmonic career.
