Birmingham-based Kingship are an independent gospel label releasing what they describe as soul stirring gospel music. This cassette is their first release and features the old fashioned gospel of Enid Rose Weir. Original songs with an age-old message, style-wise this sounds like something from the late 70s in terms of the contemporary gospel fee! of the arrangements. Occasionally on songs like "Though The Storms Of Life Are Raging", there's a good old gospel stomping taking place which takes the musical influences even further back. Strong on message and inspiration, these are songs that are designed to minisĀter. The testimony song "Because Of You I Am Living" is a slow ballad with plenty of organ and faint horns whereas the title cut is a slice of country gospel complete with violin solo! "Use Me Lord I Am Thine" sounds like a '60s easy listening track with jangly guitar and horn stabs! In places Enid is a little lacking vocally but that is rectified by the presence of label mate Sonia King keeping everything in order. Gospel music like this which eschews the modern trend to add in urban influences is never going to go out of fashion and Enid's songs have the power to encourage and stir.
