Maybe, as their publicist claims, they are “the original purveyors of the modern girl band” but now, of course, there’s only two. Sisters Easther and Vernie Bennet are excellent R&B singers, though despite the bevy of producers working with them here I’ll be surprised if this set repeats the success of old. For one thing, it’s now a crowded market-place. For another thing, though the breathy leads and harmonies glide effortlessly across funky programming, there surely aren’t enough radio-friendly hooks to make it register in popdom. There are, encouragingly, some Christian content on ‘Eternal’ with “He Is”, written by Easther and described as “a tribute to her faith” and another song “What’cha Gonna Do” ends with the words “He will guide you, ‘cause He’s the Almighty.” Sadly, that guidance appears lacking on some of the other material. “Sunday Morning” and “Pillow Talk” manage to be both banal and tawdry songs of sexual submissiveness. Approach with caution.
