Singer, writer, rapper and producer Evangel has been singing professionally in her native California since the early '90s and this project, which fuses R&B, hip-hop and what Evangel calls "new old school funk" with lyrics that put God firmly at the centre of things. This is certainly a varied and extremely accomplished selection and Evangel undoubtedly possesses a fine set of pipes, which are put to good use on "We Should Be Kool", the frisky "The Truth" and "Can-U-Handle-It". The ballads work well too, and the backing choir - shortened to, rather unfortunately, M.O.R. - handle their parts with aplomb. This album deserves to do well as it's excellently produced and performed, though it's a crowded urban market.
