Coming out of Georgia, the wonderfully named Filet Of Soul create white boy soul mixed with elements of rootsy pop and rock so in places this is a funky little CD. Acoustic guitars, snappy funky bass lines and the soulful vocals of Adam Beadles give this a distinctive sound. Two tracks are produced by Bill Mallonee from Vigilantes Of Love including the deceptively downbeat opener "Away", which has some brilliant vibey Hammond, and the acoustic "Gravity", which sounds like a cross between REM and Jars Of Clay! Elsewhere I love the bass-driven "Copperpot" and "Point Of View", which not only illustrate the band's versatility but also take things in a funkier direction. "About The Rain" shows the band's acoustic pop leanings whilst "Broken Mirror" is totally stripped down, just vocals and guitar. This is all very captivating though I have to confess that the enigmatically titled "Sebastian" is my favourite, I mean, anyone who can write a lyric and mention Rick James has to be okay! Overall, this is such a brilliant coupling of the acoustic and the funky, it stands out from the pile!
