Bristol-based Geraldine Latty has long been associated with Focusfest, Britain's largest Christian women's conference. With her unique, high-powered vocals, Latty certainly knows how to unite a crowd of worshippers in proclaiming praises to God. There's a stream of upbeat praise anthems in the first half of the album (and a few later on too!). They're all well known tunes, eg, Kendrick's "Far And Near" and Redman's "Blessed Be Your Name". A delightfully catchy Celtic flavour oozes from several tracks, perhaps in representation of the Irish setting - this year's event was held once again in Belfast's Waterfront Hall - for example on the opening "Intro Jig", and on "Power In The Blood", part of a cracking four-song worship medley led inimitably by Ms Latty. To add variety and to give Geraldine time to catch her breath, Northern Ireland's home-grown Sarahanne Wilmont leads on several tunes, including her own "Patiently I Wait". Two standout tracks for me both come from the Vineyard stable - about the most sensitive version of Doerksen's "Purify My Heart" I've heard, and a fine congregational take of "I Have Been Redeemed", though not quite a match for Wendy O'Connell's excellent and poignant original. Overall, a powerful expression of over 2,000 women lost in worship and praise.
