This, the second album from a California-based band, is a cut above the average worship project. It has so many strengths - the confident soaring vocals of lead singer Emily Hamilton, the original, noteworthy and melodic songwriting of Emily and other band members - Johnny Hamilton and Jeff Luckey - and the excellent production work of Jared Fox which gives the set powerful sonic values. Most of the tracks, especially those on the first half of the album, are uptempo numbers that will have people clapping and even dancing at worship services, but there's a greater depth to the writing than one hears on much pop gospel. The opening track has a thumping drum beat but that ties in nicely with the lyrics - "When our hearts beat loud like the sound of a drum/We know that we are loved 'cause every beat is grace." The slower, ballad style songs on the second half are the most distinctive. "Back To You" is a moving song of repentance and turning back to God, conscious of one's sinfulness - "Forgive me Lord for my ungrateful heart/When I thought that I would be better off alone." The pared back instrumentation allows the lyrics to breathe and impress. Best track of all is left to the end. "Your Love" is a gorgeous meditative reflection on the love of God - "When I'm lost and I'm set to surrender/You overwhelm me with your love."
