The highly regarded metalcore band from Sioux City, who are coming to the UK in November, here deliver their third album and, like its predecessors, it creates quite an impact. There is so much more to this recording than the average metalcore offering. Certainly Mattie Montgomery has a rasping edge to his delivery that will match any of his contemporaries, but he also includes phrases that are reminiscent of P.O.D in their rapcore days, making for an inventive and exciting listen. Musically, For Today fill the album with brutal breakdowns but also manage to include catchy melodic sections throughout, as evident in the impressive "White Flag" and anthemic "King". 'Breaker' is a poem written by Jose Palos and selections of this are set to some quieter reflective moments. With this recording, the band have come of age and produced a collection full of variety and musical technicality. Alongside this, For Today write lyrics that are forthright and honest, making a trademark spiritual stand. There are no implied references to their faith as they shout "You are faithful Lord.... Let every knee bow and every tongue confess you are Lord." If you like your music loud and with no frills and with lyrics that refuse to hide in obscure metaphor, this album is outstanding.
