One does not need to be a prophet to predict that this type of release will soon be a thing of the past. If we want a compilation of the best bits from a longer work we will either visit our favourite digital music shop and download what we want or perhaps buy a good budget complete 'Messiah' (several of which are reviewed elsewhere on this site) and make our own selection. Be that as it may, this compilation is taken from the complete 'Messiah' released by the same label (CFR0848) which was, in its turn, a re-issue of an earlier recording on the Guild label. Curiously, the 'Complete' set included a bonus CD of "essential highlights" numbering 10 tracks whereas this 'Easter Highlights' has 19 and does represent a good selection of the best bits from an indispensable work. Conductor Timothy Dean takes some of the solos too slowly for my taste but the choral sections are well done and "Hallelujah!" never fails to raise our spirits.

Product Description

Be moved and inspired by these essential Easter highlights from Handel’s Messiah, the most enduring work of Christian choral music ever written. Experience the Easter journey from the Passion to the Cross and Resurrection, culminating in the great song of praise around the Heavenly throne Worthy is the Lamb, and the triumphant Amen!

This famous Oratorio has been performed every year since its composition in 1741 and is presented here with choir, soloists, and full orchestra.
