Before we would hear top ccm songstress Sandi Patty belt out
"Somebody Believed"; it's songwriter would record a swell
version the year prior. Gary along with his wife Rosemary
wrote every song on his first debut on Newpax label; the
same year as Bobby Springfield (Do Your Heart a Favor).
Some of the bgvs would be synonymous with top ccm artist Amy
Grant; i.e. Marty McCall & Diana Dewitt. I really like
"I'll Sing YOU A New Song", a nice flowing #. Some of the
lyrics to side 1 starter song "Happy Family" are on back top
cover. Prior to production on this album, top producer
Randy Cox just finished producing trio Higher Ground's lp,
"Changes" on Milk & Honey label. "Never Gonna Be the Same"
has hit written all over it; great early ccm. I love the
bgvs on "Eternally Grateful To YOU". A very short
(basically 1 minute) acapella worship song "Victory" closes
the songset: great song, too bad there wasn't more to hear.
BTW Marty McCall had a very busy year in music in 1980;
Fireworks' lp, plus singing bgvs on various ccm recordings.
GOD Bless! -Don
