Genita, while being a mother of three, is also pastor of a ministry based in Mississippi with the same name as this album. Her voice is full of warmth and confidence, and her songs focused and intense. Just check out a few song titles and you know there's going to be no doubt about where she's coming from: "Put My Trust In Jesus", "Heavenly Father", "Lord I Thank You" for example. She's not ashamed to copy and paste from the Scriptures but also, unfortunately, from the long and winding book of gospel music cliches. Many of the tracks are about two minutes longer than they need to be, and they mostly lack any instrumental breaks or rise-and-fall in dynamics. A portion of the keyboard sounds appear to have escaped from a Sesame Street soundtrack, but the guitars are plucked skilfully. The most tiring aspect for the listener though, is the non-stop aural bear-hug provided by Mrs Pugh. Some people may prefer more subtlety and delicacy.
