Godfrey is probably Britain’s best known worship leader not to be releasing albums through a record company. And, as usual, it’s worth going to the extra effort to locate a copy. Stirring anthems of considerable prophetic resonance. Try “Go Storm The Gates” with its take-no-prisoners opening, “Break-off performance/Bring on the passion/Wash out religion/We need intimacy” with Godfrey, recorded live at Romford, helped out by the Reading One Voice Choir and Paul Bell’s torrid rock guitar licks. At times the veteran sounds uncannily like Noel Richards, like on the powerful opener, “The Suddenly Of God”. Stirring worship with songs the whole Church could do with hearing.
