According to the accompanying press release, this eight-song offering of praise by Kent group God's Great Adventure was recorded in a limited period of time before a band member left for university and - sad to say - it shows. Getting off to an unpromising start on the title track, an off-key entry by the project's vocalist and writer Catherine Creighton sets the scene for a stream of under par performances that sound more like tentative initial try outs of unfamiliar worship material rather than the finished article. Despite having a pleasant enough singing voice, Creighton's hesitant delivery is hampered by fairly severe tonality issues as well as a tendency to mumble her words - making it difficult for the listener to make out the lyrics of her undeniably well-meaning and God-centred songs. In addition, Creighton and crew limit the sound to a very basic acoustic guitar, piano and drums set up with virtually no variation which does nothing to give the songs in question the lift they require whilst some ill-advised out of time fills from drummer Michael Kemsley on a couple of songs should really have warranted a retake or two. Since this album was cut, Creighton reports that she has had to begin again with new band members and hopefully with less time pressures she will be able to come up with something more listenable with her second release.
