Chick-fronted heavy rock that blasts through the sound barrier! Here are songs that are lyrically mature, packed with energy and melody and in singer Mia Richards, the band have a frontwoman of real passion. Guitarist husband Dave Richards stretches things so that the band occupy the same musical territory as Disciple or Bride but sound totally fresh. Their indie debut 'Fairy Tales' grabbed attention and now that they are signed to the respected American label Rugged, they are due to breakout Stateside. 'Mouth Full Of Nails' comes complete with your own free nail in the spine of the CD case and that's about the only gimmick here. The rest of it is heads down no nonsense rock and indeed roll! Highlights include the catchiness of "Nevermind", the power-poppy "Star" and "Ordinary Girl"; the relentless rocking of the title track and the pounding groove of "Trophy". There's even a rather splendid cover version of one Sir William Idol's "White Wedding"! Gretchen are full of surprises!
