Having been underwhelmed by previous albums in the Happy Mouse series I approached this CD with absolutely no Yuletide expectation. But that old adage, you can't judge a CD by looking at the cover (in this case a child like illustration of Joseph leading Mary on a donkey) was proven correct as this is a thoroughly charming album of Nativity stories aimed at 3 to 7 year old children. The stories, written by Penny Wilcock and read by Heather Cohen are delightful with the first part of "Shepherds And Angels" - which cleverly compares often-looked-down-on dustmen as the status of shepherds during Jesus' time. But all the stories manage to portray biblical events simply, effectively and with considerable charm. Capping off the four stories are some brief, musical interludes ("O Little Town Of Bethlehem", "Silent Night") with the whole thing produced by wise-old-head Chris Norton. All in all, a delightful set recommended to every parent looking for a rest from bedtime story duties.
