This disc chronicles Baylor's early career, cannily squeezing all the elements that defined her foundational work in the early '90s into 10 choice songs. Paramount of all her triumphs to be shown off is of course her vocal mastery, which is effortlessly soulful and water tight from the first cut to the last, whether she is engaged in exuberant energetic praise or in tender testimonial recollection. On equally unabashed display is the sheer versatility of her instrumental accompaniment. With ripping funk guitar in "The Best Is Yet To Come", heart-stopping bass pops in "God Is Able" and bop-able pop beats in "Lifting Up The Name Of Jesus", Helen is seen at every end of her spectrum. While some tracks may have a small whiff of cheese to the modern ear, for anyone seeking a root-level introduction to this fine diva this compilation will demonstrate exactly why Ms Baylor had her spell among the gospel best sellers.

Believe me, Helen is right on the money with her
gospel musicial inspirations concerning her belief in the power of the most High; and how she overcame to put it all together. Now I'm a renegade when it comes religion; raised as young christian in the holiness pentacostal church and then converted to Al-Islam. What I'm saying is God is Almighty; and with this divine musical inspiration; Helen's love for Isa Ibn Maryam (Jesus the Christ), makes my heart feels so good. I don't expect for anyone to understand where I'm coming from, but as a 25yr jazz musician, I can truely relate to where Helen is coming from. I'm sold out, sold out to Almighty God. Helen's music is for just not for our christian brothas and sistas; her music is for mankind; regardless of their religion might be. Keep stepping sista , from a jazzy percussionist who loves your music.

I bought my first (CD) by Helen several years ago during a time when God was really dealing with me. Helen is, TRULY, an individual built through Gods work and love for mankind. Every time I stop and hear her music, I brekadown with tears of Joy. She has that rare ability thorugh her music and Gods grace to empty and rebuld the soul, all at the same time. Thank you God for giving us your precious tool for our needs. There is no one in Gospel Music today that has Helen's ability to meet Gods needs through Music and here rare ability with God to change the Heart.

HELEN BAYLOR is one of the true great ambassadors of Gospel music. For Gospel music digs deeper than any other music throughout the world today. And those who make it so, and those who have made it so in the past, just like Helen Baylor form an uncompromising band of Christian saints (men and women), who have spent decades in contention with all manner of difficult circumstances. Few performers have had it quite so tough as gospel singers and it shows in the way they commit themselves within a song: The Christian vision of deliverance from spiritual and social shackles has always held out the greatest hope to those with least to lose and the gospel song is essentially a song of deliverance. The real, breathtaking power of gospel singing cannot be understood as anything less than the ecstatic victory shout of a soul set free at last. There is no music quite like that of gospel music, no drama like the drama of Christians rejoicing, the sinners moaning and repenting, the tambourines shaking, and all those voices coming together in unity, crying holy unto, the LORD.
