Reviewed by Tony Cummings Eschewing most of the musical characteristics normally associated with the Australian mega church, this is a studio album, almost entirely of mid tempo and slow songs and with arrangements that are low key and reverential perfectly suited to music associated with the Lord's Supper. These new Songs Of The Cross are excellent with Peter James' "Life", Holly Watson's "With Christ", Adrian Lewis' "My Hope Is Jesus" and Darlene Zschech and Miriam Webster's "The Only Name" all truly memorable while the lead vocalists - Julie Cowdroy, Steve McPherson, Darlene Zschech, Annie McIntosh, Holly Watson, Erica Crocker, Paul Andrew, Katrina Tadman and Brooks Fraser - are, without exception, excellent. Kicking off with a version of Robert Lowry's timeless "Nothing But The Blood" was also an inspired idea. In view of the similar tempos throughout, a difficult album to fully appreciate at one sitting but worship music as tastefully executed and Christ-centred as this is hard to resist.
