A Scottish six-person band gives us 14 tracks, over 66 minutes of music in both a live and a studio setting, with 10 per cent of profits going to the Bethany Christian Trust, which is dedicated to caring for the homeless and the hurting in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. Words and music are entirely in house (apart from Charles Wesley's old favourite "O For A Thousand Tongues", which gets a new tune, with a vaguely African/native American drum beat), and on the whole it's good straight ahead worship fare, even if the themes are familiar ones that keep coming around every so often. One track that bucks the trend, and seems rather out of place as a result, is "Guttering Coin", featuring a crunchy guitar lead and some punchy saxophone stabs, and a lyric that warns against pursuit of material things and easy answers - not the sort of song that the worship band and congregation of St Limply-in-the-Marsh could cope with! If you can forgive the well-worn lyrical phrases, the slightly boomy sound quality on the live tracks and the occasional wobbly vocal (although Kevin Russell has a touch of the Mac Powell about him, which can't be bad), this might be worth searching out.
