Ian gets it right on so many levels on this, his first studio album. Most importantly every word comes across clearly, and at no stage does he let the excellent instrumental backing overshadow the lyrics - other performers take note! And what he has to sing about is worth hearing, as is his appealing voice. The songs are both melodic and varied, not always a feature of singer/songwriter offerings. The opening track "For We Believe And Trust" has a southern rock feel and makes for an appropriate opening statement. "Let God Arise" (based on Psalm 68) feels like an anthem, helped by the searing guitar solo. "God Of Infinity" (based on Psalm 8) is the standout track for me, a beautiful piece for reflection, with touching piano and cello backing. "Awake My Soul" is another reflective piece, while "Unveiled Faces" is more funky and jazzy. By contrast "Captivate" is a rather captivating folk number with prominent acoustic guitar. "In You O Lord" is a bit dragged out and could do with a little tightening up, but it's a small fault. The album concludes with "Better Than Life" which has a very apt closing message - "rejoice in the Lord always".
