For nearly two decades, Ian White has been making music that draws you into the presence of God and this set of new songs proves that he's not lost his touch. Deeper In The River is an apt title for the project because this is a gentle encouragement to go deeper with God. The majority of this is pretty bliss' ed out worship but every now and again a drum loop adds a bit of poppy drive so Messiah and Faith Hope Love are infectious pop tunes with powerful messages. One of the themes that seem' s to permeate the songs is the fact that to go deeper with God means facing up to some of the deeper, darker issues of our soul - so Ian provides an exhortation that we need to deal with sins and brokeness. This is a liberating album because the mercy, love and grace of God break through into those difficult areas of our lives and listening to this, I am inspired and filled with hope. Songs like Love Mercy and the title song are powerful provocations whilst "How It Has To Be" shows the restorative power of God working all around us. The Spirit' s Touch is an excellent stripped down prayer for unity and the closing Bridges is probably my favourite song here with its lilting melody and inspiring theme of continuing the journey to discover more of God.
