A debut album from a Welsh band. Grant Griffiths (vocals/drums) and Ryan Morgan (vocals/keys) began playing together and were joined later by Rob Brown on lead guitar. They promise lyrics and melodies that are "truly unique". They also claim that Grant has a seven octave vocal range, which I'm pretty sure beats some kind of world record, if not being humanly impossible! Intrigued? So what can you expect from 'Beauty For Ashes'? The first track "Say" sets the tone for the album. It sounds rather dated and the production could be so much better while the tune is repetitive despite the lyrics being honest and heartfelt. "Everything And All" and "In You", despite the production, are simple, thoughtful and moving worship songs. The vocals on "Lay it Down" seem slightly off key though. "To You" is a change to the style and is a fast-paced worship song; unfortunately though it sounds the most dated! The acoustic tracks are arguably the best on the album and are a refreshing variation. The lack of production doesn't show too badly here and their simple acoustic nature is more classic than dated late '90s.
