Plenty of talented artists have fallen into the trap of producing cringe-worthy Christmas albums. Hearteningly, this Canadian singer/songwriter has managed to avoid the major pitfalls. This guitarist and singer from Ontario celebrates the incarnation in a meditative way. He has selected some Christmas songs such as "I Saw Three Ships" and the spiritual "Rise Up Shepherd And Follow" together with well known carols but has worked hard on new arrangements. And the standout for me was a beautiful rendition of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" that perfectly interprets the mood of the song by beginning mournful and then picking up the tempo - this is no mean achievement on the guitar. You also get a glimpse of Jacob's songwriting skill on the title track which fits well among these offerings. All in all, Mr Moon has come up with something that is surprisingly good.
