There is little you can do to prepare yourself for the experience of 'The Helsinki Project'. The soundscapes Carter has created are breathtaking. The intricacies of the arrangement combine Carter's own skilful flamenco style guitar playing with multiple layers of ethnic instrumentation, samples and powerful words of powerful people, by their position or their ideals. Such is the nature of this music; you will find yourself instantly and totally immersed within it. A perfect example is "Prelude No. 1" which combines the J.S. Bach composition with a Muslim call to prayer and a speech by George W Bush. Not only has Carter brought the music of the east to the western world, but he has spent large amounts of time playing to isolated and oppressed nations in an attempt to give them hope through the music that we gain enjoyment from. Musically and conceptually brilliant! A masterpiece that all should experience to its fullest.
