Aficionados may have caught this gospel jazz team at Ronnie Scott's recently. Led by pianist Mark Ingleby the Brazilian-influenced player who's worked with everybody from avant-gardist Anthony Braxton to British gospel's finest, Jazz Art Directive are a class act. The lead singer of the Directive is Eska Mtungwazi, a tour-de-force on the South London gospel scene and on the three tunes (two in a medley) here she sings with soulful inventiveness while the band, particularly bassist Chris Rodell, cook along. Until they come up with a CD this is worth investigating.
