Jet Velvet thank God and a dog amongst the usual family credits in the sleeve notes of their self-titled debut release. With a faint Christian thread through their songs, the two singer/songwriters Paul Dexter (best known for his work in Mayfair Laundry) and Matt Bissonette, who make up the core of the band, allow a double-meaning in the interpretation of their lyrics in this catchy, quirky pop offering. With credits for songs on Friends, CSI Miami and One Tree Hill these crafters of contemporary pop clearly know their trade. Described as "Orange County, California's latest buzz band", Jet Velvet draw comparisons to Owl City, Fountains Of Wayne and Cheap Trick, while also demonstrating occasional retro influences from the likes of the Beach Boys and the Beatles. With crisply effective production these guys offer a nice line in harmonies while their lyrics take in the hurt of broken relationships, and an effective and humourous look on growing up.
