'Doxology: A Jazz Praise' is an instrumental offering from jazz pianist Jim Martinez, joined by Ed Thigpin on drums and Christian Fabian on bass. This is without a doubt the best and most complete jazz sound I have heard since I know not when. Although Martinez didn't pen any of the tracks himself, he and his band have a unique style and approach that gives an instant freshness to the these old hymns - in fact they give them life! It always gives me a buzz when I hear excellent music, played by seriously brilliant musicians and it goes beyond the buzz when it's produced well - for me it makes a complete package. Martinez was responsible for the production and if I were he I would give myself a pat on the back - it's marvellous! It is quite obvious that these boys spend time in the presence of the Lord, the music is focused right - it hits you right in the spirit.
