Reviewed by Jamie Maxwell Hailing from Houston, Texas, Jimmy has risen to prominence over the last six years, releasing two successful albums while this, his third studio recording, hit number one in the iTunes gospel charts. On first listening one is immediately reminded of Jason Mraz, and as such it is no surprise to read that Needham quotes him as one of his biggest influences. One could argue that he is also a dead ringer for John Mayer, the guitar work here being reminiscent of his bluesy, soulful tone. His well delivered vocals involve some complex rhythmic work which he pulls off expertly and which perfectly complement the intricate guitar lines. The standout tracks on the album include the title track, as well as the reflective "Being Small" which seems to roll seamlessly into "Yours To Take" (written about Needham's wife). One of the most pleasant surprises on the album is "Grace Amazing", which features hip-hop artist Trip Lee and is a great example of a fusion of rock with rap. There is a need within the Christian music scene for artists to express their faith in a new and original way, and the honest lyrics and fresh sound of 'Nightlights' deliver this in abundance.
