The continuing fascination with all things Johnny Cash has clearly landed his sister Joanne a record deal. The opening track "Glory Glory" is dedicated to the memory of her younger brother Jack, a saintly boy who died a horrible death in a farm accident and who's death resonates through the family's history. The next song, "Cotton, Popcorn, Peanuts And Jesus" is only something country music could have come up with! A weak sounding Johnny himself introduces "Lower Lights", which recounts how the whole family gathered around their father Ray when he was dying. One of the highlights of this outstanding album is "When He Comes" sung by Johnny. He originally recorded this on his 1989 'A Believer Sings The Truth' double album, but here we get an introduction by a very fit sounding Johnny about how he came to write this song from his hotel room in Jerusalem and envisioning the second coming of Christ to the Mount of Olives. In the liner notes Joanne recounts her journey of faith and her evangelistic heart. This comes through clearly in these songs, which are as enjoyable a collection of timeless, old school country gospel you're likely to get in 2007.
