Joey is an American rock drummer best known for his sterling work with those extraordinary Latin fusion evangelists Tony Loeffler & The Blue Angels. Over 40 years of wielding the sticks certainly gives Joey every right to bear that title. Playing in a band with members who went on to be part of Vanilla Fudge and drumming in bands supporting the likes of Ted Nugent and even Aretha Franklin. The height of his success in the band Red Legs coincided with the low point of his life in alcohol and substance abuse. Clean now for a many years Brennan is keen to share his faith. The sound is chunky blues rock, with a band playing in a tight jamming style. The album features guitarist Vince Martell (Vanilla Fudge). As I said Brennan is a rock drummer, but what I learn from this recording is that he is NOT a rock singer. His growling delivery sounding a bit like Johnny Cash trying to do metal is something of an acquired taste. An instrumental "Rumble" is a standout, not entirely surprisingly. Joey is an excellent musician and has surrounded himself here with some session seasoned-musos of considerable skill. So it's a great shame that the stilted vocals drag the project down.
