Sub-titled 'Favourite Worship Songs', but I only knew one of the songs ("Here I Am, Lord"). This is an album, not of John Michael Talbot's own compositions, but of contemporary Catholic worship songs, sung in JMT's familiar gentle style, with his usual fine acoustic guitar, choral vocals and other instruments- from uillean pipes to didgeridoo- are also in evidence. I hope nobody will be put off by the idea of Catholic worship songs, there is nothing here any Christian should have a problem with; instead, there are Scripture-based songs and a depth of spirituality that is missing from all but the best contemporary worship. The album is gentle without being bland, though I found it a bit too one-paced to hold the attention right through. A better way to listen to it is to go to individual songs- I'm sure I'll find some of these bringing me close to God for a long time to come. If you like John Michael Talbot, this is for you. If you're more used to livelier worship, this could be for you too- you might just find God's quiet voice inviting you to some much needed rest.
