It’s a bit daunting when faced as I was with a list of plaudits for this album for the likes of Leann Rimes, Davy Jones (Monkees) and the legendary Brian Wilson. It would be hard to give this anything but a glowing review. I hear Cliff and Larry Norman are also fans, so it must be amazing, mustn't it? Well, it's certainly eclectic. Johnny's taken a whole pile of influences, stirred them up in a big pot, and voila! To these ears, too much variety makes for a hard album to listen to and whilst there are pop, funk, Motown hip hop and ballads all on display here, the overall effect for me is of the net being cast a little too wide. The album just sounds sprawling and uneven.
