The release of 'Under The Influence' should have proven that Russ Taff was deadly serious in his desire to take his music back to the roots. But even his more loyal followers may be a tad bemused by this album. For Russ has lent his production services, band and even artist billing to a family group whose decades of singing experience put them in a genre a long, long way from today's contemporary Christian music. The Johnson Sisters are a country harmony group whose sound and much of their material hasn't changed since the 40s, warbling in voices a little the worse for wear but still satisfyingly old timey. Co-producer James Hallinhan Jr picks some wonderful guitar, the band is mixed well back and the whole thing is a delightful, affectionate recreation of a past era of country gospel.

This brings back a lot of old good memories of hearing these
wonderful ladies singing at the Eastside Tabernacle in
Farmersville, Ca. Great hearing them and so glad Russ did
this.
