Singer/pianist Jon from Indiana landed a major record company deal back in 2007 and his 'Indiana' album subsequently enjoyed considerable US Christian radio airplay. Presumably though sales weren't as good as Island were hoping for and Jon's belated followup was an independent release 'Forever If Ever'. Now the project has been re-released with all the tracks remastered and three new ones added. Jon has toured with the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles and it is quickly obvious that his style of catchy piano led pop rock would fit in very well. The title track opens with a few bars of Hammond organ before ramping up rapidly into a piano fuelled pop romp. Things calm down a lot for "You Never Know" and the very well crafted single "Summer is Over" sung with Sara Bareilles and its wonderful chorus. There is also a collaboration with The Voice's Xenia Martinez - "Maybe It's Over" - and a hidden acoustic track - "Wool Over Eyes" - to add even more variety. The theme of the album is very much the trials of love and breakups but never becomes melancholy and maintains a very positive feel without ever mentioning faith or God at all. In all a wonderful piece of pop that I would be very happy for my daughters to listen to.
