This is Jose's first album, produced at Ty Cerdd recording studio in Cardiff. Jose is a soprano soloist, having toured Europe and the USA in the '80s and '90s with the Continental Singers and Orchestra, and more recently performing with the Guernsey Island Churches Festival Chorus. Jose's singing could be described as "operatic" in style, and while this treatment is perfect for track four on the album, Cesar Franck's "Panis Angelicus", it sounds a tad strange on praise songs like "You Raise Me Up" or on Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Jose is joined on the album by Welsh musicians Jeffrey and Rachel Howard providing piano accompaniment. This accompaniment tends to sound a touch mechanical at times, particularly on the old hymn "The Holy City". If you like operatic soprano singing, you may want to investigate though Jose's singing style is better suited to classical work exclusively, rather than a mix of ancient and modern as on this album.
