Oregon-based singer/songwriter Josh White - not to be confused with his legendary blues namesake - has released a second solo album following his departure from worship rock band Telecast. Revisiting and deconstructing songs from the three Telecast albums, White offers up a fresh and intimate take on attuned songs of devotion that are refreshingly a million miles away from today's big worship sound and ultimately prove to be just as powerful when it comes to helping the listener reflect on God's love. White's success lies in his understated yet absorbing delivery and the choice of stripped back instrumentation - mostly White accompanied by a couple of acoustic guitars or a dampened piano, augmented by the occasional harmony, banjo or plaintive slide - and songs such as the title track or the haunting "Face To Face" reflect the overriding Americana feel of this release. Elsewhere, White gently brings the band in on the Jack Johnson-like "The Way" and "Anchor Of My Soul" - a song of submission to God - whilst the likes of the beautiful "Covered" expertly takes proceedings back down a notch and quietly proclaims the redemptive power of Christ's blood. The title of the closing track "Beauty Of Simplicity" sums up this endearing album from one of Christian music's best kept secrets.

Great review!
I too am instantly in with Josh's music and through his church have been blessed by some artists that are truly talented as well off the beaten path.
I am wondering if anyone else hears the shocking similarity between Josh's voice and John Lennon? It really is more prevalent on his "Pilgrim" album but I can't help to think I am the only one who hears this.
